Baba's Mediterranean Kitchen

Like I said, dinner last night was awesome.  G had been wanting to find a place for kabobs because he misses the one that we go to back home.  Baba's Mediterranean Kitchen had gotten really good online reviews, so I decided we needed to give it a try and we really weren't disappointed.

We got carryout and it was prepared in about 15-20 minutes-- pretty fast for a Friday night.  The actual restaurant is really cute inside and has great atmosphere.  I saw people drinking a bottle of wine (BYOB) and they looked really cozy.  The kitchen is open-air and small.  It was neat to see them cooking.

Back home, we dug into our food.  I ordered the Med-ley Plate with olives and feta, dolmas, spanikopita, hummus, and falafel.

Everything on this was great.  The hummus is out of this world and so fresh.  I would go back just for that.  The falafel was a little dry, but that also might have been from it being carryout.

For dinner we both got the chicken kabob and rice.

I just can't eat that much meat in one sitting, so I only ate 2 of the pieces.  The sauce on this was really tangy and good and I really liked the rice.

And the grand finale:  baklava!  This was really delicious and also fresh.

I will definitely be trying Baba's again.  The people there were really friendly and the rest of their menu looks fanstastic.  Definitely recommend it!

Snowing!

Howdy, howdy!  It's starting to snow here, which I'm not really thrilled about.  We're going to the inner harbor later on for Merry Tuba Christmas.  G's sister and her boyfriend play in it every year.  We went last year and it was fun.  I guess the snow makes it more festive, but I don't like the cold!

Yesterday for a snack I had some hummus and pita chips.

Then for lunch I tried out the leftover fish on a salad.  Not the best idea; it was pretty bad.  But the french bread with smart balance on the side was good :)

Then some strawberry yogurt with walnuts.

I also made some gingerbread from the TJ's mix and that has been getting picked at throughout the past 2 days :)

We took Ollie on a long walk to Federal Hill.  We stopped and got him a doggie cookie.  Look how adorable!  And puppies need to have good eats, too!

Dinner last night was from Baba's Mediterranean Kitchen in Federal Hill.  It was really great!  I'm going to post a full review in my next post, but I had a lot of stuff that I had been craving!

Breakfast was a mediocre bowl of oats.  Not even detailing it, it wasn't anything special.

I need to finish up that cleaning now!  I did pretty well yesterday, but I need to finish it up before G's family comes over!  Any big weekend plans?  It's starting to get to that time of year with all of the fun holiday stuff!

Tidying up.

Hey everyone.  It's so hard to keep up with the blogging when school starts to get crazy!  Plus my field placement has been busy.  Yesterday we got to go to one of our patient's school to help make an education plan for him.  It's nice to be able to help people in so many different areas of their lives.

I wasn't going to cook dinner last night because I was exhausted, but then I didn't feel like anything nearby our apartment, so I made chipper fish and butternut squash.

And I have a lot of this fish left, so it will be making repeat appearances.  This morning I had a ww english muffin with peanut butter.

I really have been wanting to try Whole Foods hot bar lately, but I've also felt really busy and not wanting to waste food.  We were sort of planning on eating out some time in the next couple of days, so maybe I'll get something good :)  But the BIG thing I need to do today is CLEAN!!  Our apartment is horrible right now, so I am getting down to it as soon as I post this!  And hooray!  It's Friday :)

End of semester blues.

This has been a sadly busy week.  I always feel like I need a break after the holidays to actually get myself back on track before I dive right into work and classes.  I got my 2 papers done last night, but barely.  I just hope for a passing grade on them and that my professors are just as burnt out as I am.

This morning, I squeezed in some oatmeal with walnuts and dried fruit.  Plus my daily and increasingly NECESSARY coffee,  I also had an apple.

On my way home from my morning class I got a soy eggnog latte from Starbucks.  I wasn't impressed with it.. maybe because of the soy?  But the girls behind the counter were also talking about how they didn't know how to make them so who knows.  No picture.

Lunch was a turkey, hummus, and spinach wrap on a jalapeno cheddar tortilla.

Ans some apple sauce.  I'm really trying to up my fruit and veggie intake!

One of these truffle things that G made was also eaten.  They are a little bit (a lotta bit) addicting.  This is not good because I have not been feeling too great about the bod lately.  Oh well, I'll get on track :)

I'll be leaving for my second class soon.  I've been able to get a lot of work done during my classes, which is bad, but this end of semester stuff is driving me nuts!  Anyone else going through this??

Goodbye November!

Seriously, this is the last day of November?  I went into my class today and my professor started talking about our review for our final that's next week?!  I have no idea how this month/semester went by so quickly!  It feels like I just moved!

I need to go grocery shopping, so my meals today have been leftovers and a little random.  Breakfast was a ww english muffin with half PB and half apple-cranberry chutney with an apple.

When I got home from class, I had a banana yogurt with dried fruit.

Lunch was a repeat from last night

And then I had a quick run over to Dunkin Donuts for an iced coffee since I ran out of creamer (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Did I mention I live nextdoor to a DD?  Not to mention a Starbucks, too...

The guy made this thing waaaaay to sweet, but I'm a junky so of course I'm drinking it.  Anyone doing the Cyber Monday thing?  I did most of (hopefully all of) my online shopping over the holiday, so I'm not paying too much attention.  I just need to go to class at 2 and then buckle down on some work for the rest of the night.  Oh yeah, and grocery shopping.  I see TJ's in my future :)

Thanksgiving recap!

Hello!  Wow wow wow I have been a little bit busy over this little Thanksgiving break!  I really hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and able to spend time with their families and friends in good health.

It's probably best for me to recap Thanksgiving and then move on.  I love my mom's cooking and Thanksgiving is always my favorite holiday with my family.  We don't have many family traditions, and our family is pretty small, so Thanksgiving always means a lot to me.  My mom cooked pretty much everything, except I baked the pies and made the cranberry sauce.

Here's some photo evidence of the awesome food, including what I had.

It really was a nice dinner and as you will see, I made it last all weekend.  Friday was cranberry oats, Thanksgiving sandwich, and more Thanksgiving food.  These are the only kind of leftovers I really like.

Saturday we took Ollie to the beach.  He had a lot of fun!

I had toast for breakfast and (more) leftovers for lunch.

We had pizza and salad for dinner.  I got pineapple chicken.

My dinner tonight was a Bertolli frozen entree.  I got a little scared when I took it out of the bag.

But it looked ok with my asparagus and tasted alright.  This was a total impulse buy and I did enjoy it, but I'm not sure if I would buy it again.

I hope to hear more about everyone's holiday!  I can't wait to get some more inspiration from everyone.

Gobble gobble!

This is going to be a long day of cooking (hopefully Mom will let me help her).  I really need to work on a paper, too and get the dog out for a walk.  Let's see how it goes!  We eat Thanksgiving dinner in the evening, but I know that a lot of people eat it in the afternoon.  What does your family do?

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful holiday!
